First things first… what is ranking?
When you type a phrase into a search engine and click search, it lists the most popular and trusted pages first. The phrase you type into the search usually contains something called a ‘keyword’. These keywords are what SEO Superheroes like ourselves use to optimise websites (one of our many tools). By optimising a site for certain keywords, it enables a search engine to find and list your site accordingly (matching the keywords typed into search engines to your site if you like).
Naturally people are going to click on the first few links that come up, rather than trail through pages and pages of relevant listed websites, so the higher up the ranks you can get your site, the more likely people will find it.
How Page Ranking works?
Page rank measures how many links point to a certain URL, and how trusted those links are, so the way to increase your page rank is to build a website people will want to link to (without prodding). However we must point out that not all the links are created equal, for example any links you create yourself aren’t going to help very much, so it’s good to build a good relationship with trusted links (or trusted companies/people that will link to your page).
In a nutshell search engines consider links to be like votes, some votes are more important than others. For example, Page Rank is Google’s system of counting links (votes) and determining which pages are most important based on them. These scores are then used along with many other things (like keywords) to determine if a page will rank well in a search.
If you can get people to your site, that’s the first step. Getting people to stay and look through your site is the next step. You can do this by creating attractive pages with easy navigation and informative (easy to understand) content. However getting people or other websites to recommend your site is a whole different kettle of fish. It depends on the service you’re offering people, if it’s fast and reliable and friendly your customers are more likely to recommend you. It’s all about getting people to go to your site!
If you offer a fast, reliable service, it makes sense that your website is fast and reliable too right? Have you ever clicked on a website link and got frustrated that it was taking ages to load? Nearly everyone has, and they usually end up leaving this page to look for faster loading websites. You can avoid this by having your website hosted on a fast, reliable server!
If you have UK traffic, it makes sense to have your website hosted on a UK server. One of the main benefits of having your website hosted on a UK server is that it will load a lot faster for your UK customers! The faster the load time, the more likely they will stay on your page, possibly purchase a product or service… and then recommend you to others, helping your ranks in search engines.
If you need a fast, reliable UK web hosting service we can offer you one, just get in contact with one of our Superheroes.
