2009 will be a year which goes down in history for one thing - Twitter! If you aren't Tweeting yet, there's a good chance you will be fairly soon. The phenomenon has spread like wildfire since the Spring and most web active businesses now embrace this media. There's even been talk of some businesses using Twitter for staff to communicate real time (as you can receive and send Tweets using a mobile phone) as well as men and women using the 140 characters to send coded text to their illicit mistresses or lovers!

It's that 'Bus' scenario again. None for ages, and then they all come along together. It's been like that at Hogtronix this week, as 6 websites look to be rolling out in the space of 72 hours.

The latest is PromotionalMerchandise.co.uk, a company selling, er...Promotional Merchandise (printed mousemats, mugs, tee shirts etc).

Honiton Hearing and it's previous incarnation 'Braemar Audiology' has been one of our longest serving and nicest clients here at Hogtronix, but amazingly, whilst we'd hosted the client's site for at least 6 or 7 years, we'd never actually built the client a site...until now.

SPAM is the curse of the Internet. For all the wonderful things the Web allows us to do, the thing that continues to spoil it for many is the sheer ammount of rubbish sent as SPAM, particulary via websites inside forms and via 'harvested' email addresses by SPAMbots.

Are UK Postal Strikes affecting the marketing of your business?

The UK Postal strikes shows no sign of relenting and whilst many of us will have some degree of sympathy for some of the Postal Workers who feel they've been hard done by, some concern needs to be given to small business owners who depend on the Royal Mail as a reliable (?) method of transporting goods, and their marketing effort to would be clients.

Does your Website need more Caffeine?

Way back in August (we think), Google published for pretty much the very first time, an opportunity for website owners to view their search results on the next major update on Google via a Beta site, or sandbox. The new update is known as 'Caffeine'. We've waited until now to write an article around this as we expected the results to sway a little as the Google techies continued their development tweaks.

The beta site works, and looks just like a normal Google page, and you get to see how the results on certain key phrases may appear after the new launch. It's alleged that Google allowed access to their Beta to try and engage web developers and site owners for feedback. What do you think...are your results better or worse?

Most of our Small Business Website Design requests are from clients who want us to produce the full site with a Content Management System so they can then go in and add content themselves. Either that, or the client supplies us with the content and we insert it for them and the client can then change this whenever they like using their CMS. However, we've a few clients who are rather nifty themselves, and thus we're proud to announce the launch of two websites in Spain that Hogtronix prepared the HTML templates for: Holiday Costa and Discover Nerja.

Poster artwork, created by Hogtronix for Dutch clients (based in Spain) is proudly being displayed in Rotterdam and Eindhoven International airports at the moment. Our client, Casa Selection Andalucia, proactively sell properties in the mainly La Axarquia region of Andalucia, in the south of the country. Their website, in Dutch, English and Spanish languages offers a lovely selection of searchable property, in this lovely part of the world!

Twits that Twitter!

Lots of Web folk say they don't 'get' Twitter. To be fair, it's not immediately obvious if you aren't/haven't been a regular user of the web. The whole idea of course, is to build a network of 'followers' (read: 'friends') and to communicate with each other on a regular basis as to where you are and what you're doing through a series of 'tweets' (short messages of maximum 140 characters, so slightly less than a text). Twitter also has mobile phone capabilities as well allowing Twitter 'on the go'. Some would argue (Dell PC's) that Twitter certainly has commercial marketing power and capabilities as well, though some businesses have previously created a major 'fail' by mis-mananaging the Twitter dragon (Habitat UK).

Client Website launch: Diesel Key Europe

Another Friday, and another client website launch. This week it's for Diesel Key Europe. These guys sell petrol (Diesel) caps for cars to stop mis-fuelling and the consequential expensive repairs (I think something has been on TV re: these?) Anyway, they work, and our client sells these to mainly the Iberia market (Spain).

Not because the old recruits are all leaving...Hogtronix is expanding! The mainly Male dominated Hogtronix UK HQ is now going to be re-addressed by the appointment of 'Debbie' who will be our new Financial Controller and who will offer support to Russ, Ashley, John and Gaby at our new Hartfield (close Tunbridge Wells) 'super office'. Debbie will be part time to start with and has already met a number of our Web Design clients at meetings in Tunbridge Wells and/or at our own office.
